This is a follow-up to our first Movember post, which can be found here.

This year, the Hawks’ Club has been participating in Movember, alongside a number of the sports clubs that our members belong to. Given the ongoing pandemic, and with health being more important than ever now for many reasons, we thought this was the perfect time to show our support for Movember, which is the leading charity in the UK addressing men’s health issues, including mental health and suicide prevention, testicular cancer, and prostate cancer.

Our main focus has been growing moustaches, ranging from fantastic to terrible – you can see the Committee’s attempts above. We’ve teamed up with The Blue Bird in order to reward the light-blue athletes with the best moustaches in their ‘Mo of the Week’ competition, with the winners being treated to a free meal and drink at the Hawks’ Clubhouse. Have a look at the final Mo of the Week here: https://www.bluebirdnews.co.uk/mo-of-the-week-3rd-time-lucky/. The winners of all the weeks will then be entered into the final round of voting, for which the winner will also receive a gift set from our partners, The Chilli People!

In addition to growing some truly inspiring(!) moustaches, we were very lucky to be joined by Movember Ambassador James Martin. James delivered a fantastic speech to our members and other members of the University about mental health and suicide, how it relates to men’s health and some of the reasons why suicide disproportionately affects men, and how we can look out for signs of mental ill-health in ourselves and our friends and teammates, and help ensure that everyone receives the support that they need.

To round off the final week of Movember, we also ran a virtual Movember-themed Pub Quiz for Hawks and Ospreys. 14 teams took part, with ‘The Phlamingoes’ coming in victorious and winning some special Hawks’ stash for themselves.

With the month having reached an end, the Hawks’ Club has currently raised £604 for Movember. Over the next week, we’re hoping to push this up to £700 – if you’d like to help us in supporting this fantastic charity, the donation link for the Hawks’ Movember Page can be found here: https://uk.movember.com/team/2376969.
