Mark, known to all as Herbie, gained his Blues at rugby in 1987 and 1988, captaining the club in 1988. He carried on playing after university and finally retired in 1996, but still keeps himself fit skiing, cycling and playing Real Tennis. He ran the Cambridge Half Marathon in 2025.
He has had a career in Real Estate spanning both Urban Regeneration and Rural Regeneration. He sold his commercial property company back in 2007 and was Chairman of Rural Solutions from 2010 until 2025. Although his homes are in the Yorkshire Dales and the French Alps, he has been living mainly in Cambridge since 2020 in support of his wife who is Master of St. John’s College, so he is very handily situated for the Clubhouse in Portugal Place!
Herbie joined the Board of the Hawks’ Company in 2023 and became Chair at the beginning of 2025.
