Join us at the Royal Automobile Club on Wednesday 2nd December 2026 for the London Dinner!
This year’s London Dinner will take place at The Royal Automobile Club on Wednesday 2nd December 2026. Please save the date – tickets will be released in September. See below for more information on this year’s speaker and Chairman. We look forward to seeing you at the RAC!

Our speaker, Gordon MacSween (Emmanuel, CUGC, 1985-1988), has described his golfing career as book-ended by a junior Club Championship in 1983 and a Parent-and-Child Foursomes in 2023 – with 40 years of frustration in between. He has made more after-dinner speeches than victory ones … with an important exception as the winning Captain of the Light Blues in the 1998 Varsity Match.
His professional career was in general management in the UK, US, Germany and the Philippines, before resurfacing with an entertaining but unsuccessful appearance on Dragon’s Den (where Deborah Meaden was unmoved by his concept of urinal gaming!) In an unlikely twist, he then found success in Intellectual Property – and now lives in Essex with his wife and 3 sons, working for five local charities.
Gordon has spoken at a number of high-profile events (as well as some low-profile comedy nights) and, after many years in the audience, looks forward to addressing this year’s Hawks’ Dinner.

Our chairman, Andy Edmond (Trinity, CUGC, 1981-1984), read Law at Trinity College and represented CUGC in the Varsity Matches of 1982, 1983 and 1984. In his final year at university, he was fortunate enough to join the small group of undergraduates that have won the President’s Putter.
A legal career did not appeal, so he entered the City of London – initially with the stockbroker Grieveson Grant that was at that time becoming part of merchant bank Kleinwort Benson. He stayed at the bank for 19 years and sat on the Management Boards for both Global Equites and Corporate Finance. For the last twenty years he has been the CEO of Equity Development, another City firm.
Andy lives in East Anglia with his wife Fiona, an international golfer and one of the founders of the Ospreys.
